For context I have about 4-5 yoe and I was interviewing for a senior mle role. I have interviewed at a ton of places before but it was my first time with Amazon. Everybody who interviewed me from the hiring team were generally nice and polite. But the external team interview was a nightmare.
So the guy who was supposed to interview doesn't show up and the shadow interviewer takes over. He seemed disinterested right from the start. After about 20 minutes into behavior questions he asks a coding problem. It's a standard leetcode problem about an alien dictionary. But the problem was badly described with clearly wrong examples. We had a bit of back and forth and then he devolved into
a. Read the problem description,
b. You are not getting it my man,
c. Hysterical laughter
I have honestly never felt as bad as this before. I don't know if he was right or not and I don't care at this point. But what I do know is that he was worse and lacked respect/empathy for others. I thanked him, told him I am done and cut the call short by about 20 minutes. I can't imagine this happening at any other company in the bay area and I'm still in a bit of a shock.
