TCS is very good at destroying career also boon to few people. 2 type of people join here -

  1. Want to clear CAT / GRE - very good place. they get 1–2 shots to clear those and come out. If not they can move to a better company. For this set of people TCS is a very good company to start with. Golden rule, don’t stay more than 1.5 Years.
  2. People who really want to work in IT - What do they get ? I will share my personal Experience -
  3. I joined fresh from college. so went to ILP. I am a Microsoft certified programmer and was a very good programmer, so I requested them to put me in .net / java or any other batch. But they denied my request and put me in Mainframes. Which is having zero value at this date
  4. Struggled to learn for 3 months, but still did well
  5. remained in bench for 3 months. 6 months gone
  6. joined a support project of mainframe where others got technology like informatica / SAP
  7. Solved ticket for 6 months then they moved to a mainframe coding team. Where finally I got to code and worked really hard. Did lot of automation. if not “A” I was expecting “B” as my rating but my manager favoured his community people for “A” and “B” and gave me “C”. He moved out in 2 months.
  8. I was sad and started looking out but again Mainframes is not something I wanted to go so I had hard time switching technology. When I had an offer in hand, TCS asked not to move out as they are initiating my H1B and asked to continue if not H1B I will get UK visa. I worked another year in that hope, but after 4 months H1B was rejected in lottery and no opening in UK.
  9. Finally I could not keep any further hope and moved out.
  10. But till today that 3 years of my life hurts, my bad decisions, bad expectations. but 3 years such a long time to waste.
