Amazon Dublin interview experience

Hi guys, Tanuj Chaniyari here. I have completed my Btech from Tier 3 college in Computer science. Just like every other CS student, I was obsessed with getting into FAANG, which kept me motivated.

Preparation Phase

I started leetcoding in March 2020 (3rd year of BTech) when covid struck the world. Initially, I remember my aim was to just pass all the test cases of the question anyhow, and I actually carried that wrong practice for a couple of months. Back then there was not much content available on this topic.

One thing that I learned during this phase was to be consistent.

During this period I was looking for an internship and I applied to ALOT of companies but never cleared the first round. Another thing that I did was reflect on my rejections, which helped me a lot. Finally, somehow I got an internship opportunity through college.

After taking a break from this, in my 4th year, I started leetcoding very religiously and solved all problems from Strives SDE sheet ( his youtube videos are the best ✨). I got offers from Infosys, TIAA, and Oracle during this period.

Applying phase

So for every company, there is a set time when they start hiring students from off-campus. For Amazon EU location it was the month of September. I applied to all the international locations available at that time without a referral (I got to know that this time for EU locations they gave OA links to everyone).

Online assessment

The first part had 2 medium DSA questions and the time given was 1 hour and 15 minutes. After that, I got an email for 2nd and 3rd part of the assessment.

2nd part was a work style assessment, which is basically going to replicate the working environment for an SDE and you have to perform a few tasks. For this enough time was given and you don't need to prepare anything for this test, it's very basic so chill.

3rd part was all about behavioral questions. Amazon is famous for its 16 leadership principles and you will be given a list of questions in which you are supposed to answer what are you most likely to do.

I would suggest being honest, please don't contradict your own self, and keep those 16 LP’s in mind.

Interview phase

I applied to all locations in the month of December 2021 and in a few days received an email for OA. After clearing the OA I got an email for scheduling the interview for 8th Feb 2022. I selected my interview date as 30th March 2022 and solved all the most frequently asked questions by amazon from leetcode.

I appeared for 3 rounds of interviews of 1 hour each. In every round, the first half would be about questions related to LP ( please do not take this lightly) and the second half was about coding ( DSA question or low-level design question). Generally, they ask one coding question in every round. In total, I have seen people get 3 DSA questions or 2 DSA questions and 1 low-level design (most common one) question or 1 DSA question and 2 LLD questions.

For LLD they don't expect you to draw diagrams, they focus on the OOP principles, readability, etc. You can check out educative.io course for this.

For DSA just stick to leetcode, the difficulty of questions is medium-hard. Give mock interviews as much as possible, this really helps, and focus on explaining your solutions to the interviewer.

For LP questions, please don't lie, if you do they will be able to catch it, believe me on this one. Form your own stories, have at least 2–3 stories for most of the LPs. Amazon EU locations have a huge focus on this part as well so be well prepared. One of the best youtube channel for LPs is Gigi’s channel .

Conclusion

I got my result on 22nd May 2022 . Thank you for reading this article , if you got some value from this please applaud & share .
