A small handful of technology companies strive at all to maintain any gender ratio, actually. You'll notice that most of the announcements revolve around the same handful of companies or are minimal steps obviously intended to benefit the company more than the prospective employee.
And the fact is that there's at least as much of a push for racial equality as there is gender equality, at the moment (Tech companies are competing to be the most diverse), such as it is. But the media tends to shy away from stories with a racial element; they're pretty terrible at gender-related stories, but the various women's groups have made sure to be hard to ignore.
