How deep does one need to venture into programming learning (say python) to know if coding is for them? or decide if they may be able to make a coding career?

I'm finding it hard to decide if I want to be a self-taught developer. Hence, the question. I want to find the breaking point that generally gets to the regular wannabe developer folks.

Please share your opinions, it would mean a lot to me.

Programming is a tool to solve problems. Before picking up a language you pick the application that fascinates you and work backwards from there. Start with "I want to build ___, what should I learn .
